GRASS FED BEEF
Manning Hill Farm raises all of the heritage Dutch Belted bull calves born on the farm from our milking cows, as our grass fed beef. These steers live on 40 acres of pasture at the farm and are grass fed on a rotational grazing program 8 months out of the year. They are humanely raised and cared for, with no hormones or antibiotics used and no conventional grain or corn fed. All steers are born here at the farm, fed their mothers milk until 3 months of age and are raised as nature would have intended, on lush grass pasture, in a herd with other cows their own age, having fun! We do supplement them with the spent brewer's yeast from our local brewery in Keene, Elm City Brewing Company. We harvest and produce all of the forage for this herd.

Why purchase Grass Fed Beef?
For a number of different reasons including:
- 1/3 leaner than grain fed beef meaning fewer calories, less fat
-lower in saturated fats, which are the "unhealthy" fats linked to high cholesterol and heart disease
-Higher in multiple nutrients and antioxidants including beta-carotene, vitamin E, and the B-vitamins thiamine & riboflavin, also in the minerals calcium, magnesium and potassium
-Higher in total omega-3
-Contains a healthier ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 (1.65 vs. 4.84) - a lower ratio is believed to reduce the risk of chronic disease.
-Higher in CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) - which research suggests may have cancer-fighting benefits.
-Higher in vaccenic acid (which the body converts to CLA) - which may reduce cancer risk and improve cholesterol levels.

PASTURE RAISED PORK
In addition to our beef, we also humanely care for and raise all natural, antibiotic and hormone free pork. All of our pigs are born and raised on the farm from our small group of heritage Gloucester Old Spot breed sows and Tamworth boar. They live outside with the option of a shelter so they can enjoy the fresh air and sunlight and have plenty of room to root, roam and grow well on the excess milk produced from our cows. They are also helping us to reclaim old pastureland and make new pasture with the use of their strong noses, they are natural rototillers!

EGGS FROM OUR PASTURED HENS
We also sell all natural, farm fresh Eggs from cage free, pasture raised chickens for $5.00/dozen. Our hens our moved daily in "chicken tractors" around our pastured cows to help break up and decompose the cow manure, which in turn helps improve the soil quality. They feast on lots of greens, nice clover, bugs, worms and anything else they can find in the ground as well as all natural chicken grain. They free range and have plenty of sunlight, fresh air, room to run, roost and dust. Once you see the size of our eggs, color of our eggs yolks and taste the difference, you'll never go back to "store bought"! Eggs are available for purchase at the farm, farmers markets and select stores.
PASTURE RAISED CHICKEN
Heritage Freedom Ranger pastured whole roasting chickens are $4.75/lb., farm raised, foraging full time on pasture and also on all natural grain fed without the use of hormones or antibiotics. This special breed of meat chicken originated from France and is a slower growing, more active, healthier chicken then your typical supermarket chicken. This in turn, along with their foraging and room to run, makes their meat very tender and flavorful. We hand process them humanely on the farm to reduce stress, clean, inspect and package them fresh or frozen, resulting in a healthy bird for your table. Birds average size range from 4 - 6lbs. (sometimes bigger, sometimes smaller). You'll be amazed just how tender and juicy chicken can taste once you've tried one of our pasture raised birds. Great for roasting in the oven, on the grill or in the crock pot.
*We raise the freedom rangers seasonally from May through November on pasture in mobile chicken tractors and they are available for purchase during this time at the farm and farmers markets until they are all sold out for the season.
